Depois de uma longa semana de noites mal dormidas (ou não dormidas de jeito nenhum), entreguei meu último trabalho de faculdade do semestre e pude finalmente respirar os ares da liberdade! É, meus amigos, quem pensa que vida de intercambista é cheia de moleza, só feita de viagens e passeios está muito enganado.
Eu estou matriculada no programa de Jornalismo na University of East London, graças ao Ciência Sem Fronteiras. Aqui eu fui encaixada no segundo ano, de um curso de três, mas posso pegar disciplinas de qualquer ano, ou até mesmo de outros cursos se eu me interessar. Nesse semestre eu cursei três disciplinas, sendo duas delas do programa de Jornalismo: Understanding News and the Newspaper Industry, para entender valores e produções de notícias, assim como compreender o mercado editorial do Reino Unido; e Media & Gender, uma disciplina onde discutimos de um tudo relacionado à mídia e gênero, de prazeres visuais no cinema até uma análise sobre a saga Crepúsculo.

A terceira disciplina, que eu catei do programa de Film Studies, é Film Analysis, onde tivemos uma visão um pouco geral e meio introdutória aos estudos de Cinema. Essa disciplina eu escolhi porque pretendo escrever meu TCC sobre cinematografia e precisava começar a me familiarizar com temas relacionados ao meu projeto.
Apesar de serem apenas três disciplinas, o trabalho é um pouco puxado, principalmente pelo fato que precisamos se familiarizar com todo um novo estilo de textos e trabalhos, diferente do que estávamos acostumados a fazer no Brasil. Durante todo o semestre eu precisei entregar dois courseworks para cada disciplina, sendo um antes do Easter Break e outro agora, no final, cada um deles tendo entre 1500 e 2000 palavras. Não é fácil, não! É como se fossem seis artigos acadêmicos em um só semestre. Um pouco pesado para quem estava acostumado a ter no máximo dois na UFPA. Nos primeiros trabalhos eu entrava em desespero, achando que nunca-na-vida ia conseguir escrever duas mil (!) palavras em um inglês acadêmico, aceitável e ainda fazendo sentido. Mas a gente tem que se virar e fazer e, no final, acaba dando certo. Hoje, depois de tanto escrever e ler em inglês, já estou bem mais segura do que antes.

Mas agora é hora de relaxar um pouco e esperar ansiosamente pelo verão! Claro que eu não vou ficar só de bobeira e já providenciei dois cursos para fazer nesse tempo, sendo um de Fashion Journalism, na University of the Arts London, e um de Cinematography, na London Film Academy. Além disso eu sou obrigada pelo CsF a participar de algum projeto de pesquisa por aqui, mas isso ainda não foi definido.
Neste final de semana, para desestressar dos trabalhos e aproveitar o início das férias, eu fui em Liverpool! Realizar o sonho de conhecer a cidade dos Beatles (♥) e ouvir uma boa música no Cavern Club. Depois eu conto mais sobre essa viagem incrível!
A student's life is hard!
After a long week of sleepless nights, I handed my last coursework of the semester and I could finally breathe the air of freedom! Yes, my friends, who thinks that the life of a exchange student is easy and just full of trips is very much mistaken.
I am enrolled in the Journalism program at the University of East London, thanks to Science Without Borders. Here I was seated in the second level, but I can take modules of any level, or even from other courses if I get interested. In this semester I had three modules, being two of them from the Journalism program: Understanding News and the Newspaper Industry, to understand news values values and news productions, as well as understand the publishing industry of the United Kingdom; and Media & Gender, a discipline in which we discuss everything related to media and gender, from visual pleasure in cinema to an analysis of the Twilight saga.
The third subject is called Film Analysis and it's from Film Studies program and we had some general and introductory studies about Film. I chose this subject because I intend to write my final work on cinematography and needed to start getting familiar with issues related to my project.
Despite being only three disciplines, the work is a kinda hard, mainly because we need to familiarize ourselves with a whole new style of texts and works that are different from what we were used to do in Brazil. Throughout the semester I had to do two courseworks for each module: one before the Easter Break and another in the end, each having between 1500 and 2000 words. Not easy, no! It's like six academic papers in one semester. A little hard for someone used to write at most two in my university in Brazil. In the first work I was in despair, thinking that never-in-life would be able to write two thousand (!) words in an academic English, acceptable and still making sense. But I had to make it throught and, in the end, it ends up working. Today, after much reading and writing in English, I'm much more secure than before.
But now it's time to relax a bit and look forward for the summer! Of course I'm not going to just hanging out and have already provided two summer courses to do, one of Fashion Journalism at the University of the Arts London, and one of Cinematography at the London Film Academy. Also I am obliged by SWB to participate in any research project here, but this has not yet been defined.
This weekend, to de-stress and enjoy the start of the holidays, I was in Liverpool! Realizing the dream of seeing The Beatles's city (♥) and listening to good music at the Cavern Club. Soon I'll tell you more about this incredible trip!
